Jack Davies launches campaign with pledge to "get tough" on water companies
The promise was made at a campaign launch event held in Pennington on Saturday morning where residents were invited to ask questions in a Question and Answer Session that lasted 45 minutes.
When asked about the issue of sewage dumping in local rivers, Jack said:
"We've got to get tough on water companies. They've had quite a nice time of it over the last few years. They made £2.2 billion in profit last year. We're going to tax that more which is an easy way to pick up some revenue.
"We should also be saying we are going to ban your bonuses until you stop sewage-dumping because they shouldn't be getting bonuses when they're dumping raw sewage into our rivers. It's ridiculous."
The event was attended by people from every part of the constituency and questions were asked on planning issues, immigration, education, the economy and the environment.
Speaking after the event, Jack added:
"The next election could be less than six months away. The Liberal Democrats are fighting hard in New Forest West and we are fighting to win.
"It's crucial we get an MP who will be a strong local champion for our area. Not just on the issue of sewage in our rivers, but also on the two most crucial issues at the moment - the cost of living crisis and NHS waiting times."
