High Street Bank Closures a "hammer blow" for Lymington and New Milton
Lloyds has confirmed it is shutting 45 branches across its network, which includes the Halifax branches in Lymington and New Milton.
The Halifax branch in Lymington is due to close in March and the Halifax Branch in New Milton will close in April.
New Forest Liberal Democrats have been campaigning for banking hubs to be set up in major towns and villages across the district to keep face-to-face services.
Lib Dem Candidate for New Forest West, Cllr Jack Davies, called the closures “a hammer blow to both towns”:
“Not everybody can bank online.
“I urge Lloyds to copy the lead of Barclays in Lymington and open up a banking hub in both Lymington and New Milton so local people can continue to access face-to-face services."
“I would also urge our MPs to lobby the government to stop towns being left with little or no face-to-face banking facilities.”
