Caroline Rackham urges Southern Water to apologise after sewage leak shuts school sports field
Following the news that Hounsdown School in Totton have been forced to shut their sports field following a sewage leak, Lib Dem candidate for New Forest East, and Chair of Totton & Eling Town Council, Cllr Caroline Rackham, has urged Southern Water to apologise and set out a clear time-frame for repairing the damage they have caused.
The recent incident is the latest in a long line of failures by Southern Water in the Totton and Waterside area. Following the water supply being cut off to many households in the area in November, local Lib Dems Caroline Rackham and Patrick Mballa delivered bottled water to households going without.
Now with this latest incident, it is local schoolchildren who must go without. All because Southern Water have failed to invest in our crumbling sewage infrastructure.
The Liberal Democrats are campaigning for stricter regulation of our wild-west water companies and a ban on bonuses for water bosses until they stop their sewage-dumping.
Commenting on her Facebook Page, Caroline said:
"Yet again Southern Water are responsible for pipes that are in such poor condition they have leaked
"They have millions of pounds in profits that should be put towards making sure this kind of situation doesn't happen.
"What we need are public benefit companies instead of profit-making companies and a ban on bonuses. That way our money gets used to stop this kind of abuse."
