NFDC Tories have abandoned their responsibility for tourism, Lyndhurst’s biggest local industry. This will have a serious negative impact on local business and trade.
Over 130,000 tourists came to see the Visitor Information Centre in 2016. Most of them used the shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants in our village. Many stayed in local hotels and B&B’s recommended to them by VIC (Visitor Information Centre) staff at the Information Desk.
Without the Visitor Information Desk staff to help tourists and visitors they will not need to come to Lyndhurst and that local traders will lose business.
Alexi Sugden, Lyndhurst Focus Team, says:
“I fear for the future of many of our local shops and businesses without the trade that visitors to the VID then could bring to the village. Liberal Democrats promise to campaign to restore local authority support for tourism in Lyndhurst, one of our main sources of income and the centre of The New Forest.”
