The people of Ringwood will be disappointed to read in today’s A&T that Conservative Mayor of Ringwood, Cllr Michael Thierry, is to stand down from his role just a few months before his term of office ends in order to contest the County Council seat of Ringwood in May.
This has led to a major feud between the former County Councillor, Steve Rippon-Swaine (who Mr Thierry beat in the contest to become candidate), and Cllr Thierry.
Many residents have expressed concern that, with no Town Clerk, the Mayor has left the town in the lurch purely for political gain.
Cllr Thierry has history – in 2014 he was forced to apologise after using the n word in a council meeting.
Responding to the news Jack Davies, Chair of New Forest Liberal Democrats, said:
“Cllr Thierry has shown a callous disregard for the people who voted for him. Not only has he sparked a feud between members of the Conservative Party in Ringwood and himself, he has let down local people who need real leadership in their town.
“The Conservative Party in Ringwood has shown it is too busy fighting itself to fight for local people. It’s time for Real Change.
“I urge local people in Ringwood to support the Liberal Democrat candidate in May’s County elections for a strong local voice who will deliver Real Change for Ringwood.”
