Responding to Hampshire County Council’s offer to part-fund a bus shelter outside Peacocks in Lymington High Street, Pennington Councillor and Chair of the Liberal Democrats in the New Forest, Jack Davies, has welcomed the move but warned that ‘it isn’t settled yet’.
He said:
“I am very happy that progress has been made. I listed a bus shelter at peacocks as one of my top priorities when I was elected.
“Working with both the Passenger Transport Department at Hampshire County Council, fellow councillors, and the contractors responsible for actually putting up the bus shelter, I hope that I can ensure the best possible outcome for local residents.
“What concerns me is the amount offered by Hampshire County Council (£4000) is roughly a third of the estimated cost of installing a new bus shelter and so it will be up to the town council to decide whether to take funds from elsewhere or raise the town’s council tax precept by 1.2% to provide the shelter people need.
“With winter drawing in, the council must act fast to deliver this bus shelter.”
