Last week, the Forestry Commission decided to impose an absolute ban on mushroom picking on New Forest land in their ownership.
They cannot make it any clearer than a complete ban.
There are still many areas in the country where it will still be possible to pick mushrooms.
However, we believe National Parks are very special places and should be subject to the highest level of protection.
Lib Dem group leader on New Forest District Council, Cllr David Harrison said:
“I enjoy going out into the forest and photographing fungi.
“The fruiting bodies, the visible parts, are often very beautiful to look at.
“It’s great to think that they will now be available for everyone to enjoy rather than picked and taken away.”
