The New Forest could lose £3.8 million of European Union funds that would have been spent on the New Forest Higher Level Stewardship Scheme, as a result of leaving the European Union.
Lymington and Pennington campaigner, Jack Davies, said:
“I was a very proud supporter of keeping Britain in Europe – and it wasn’t just because of the economy, it was for the environment too.
“The European Union and our own government funded the Higher Level Stewardship Scheme to the tune of £19 million.
“I challenge Desmond Swayne, the Conservative MP for New Forest West who campaigned to leave the European Union, to stand beside me now and call for the next Prime Minister to guarantee this scheme will continue.
“It is vital for the New Forest’s future that it’s unique environment is protected. I’ll continue to fight hard to protect the New Forest’s rich environment.”
